C Bar T Productions had their first barrel race of the twenty ten season on January 1st thru the 3rd with $1000 added each day and $2,000 in average awards. The race was also co-sanctioned with the WPRA, ACBRA and PAC WEST. The thrilling barrel race paid out $25,000 with 500 overall competitive entries for the noteworthy weekend. To help contestants get more acquainted C Bar T also hosted a New Year’s Eve potluck dinner at the arena on Thursday night that included a Karoke machine, great food and lots of fun. Erik and Vicki Jacobson of C Bar T were invited this year to sponsor one of the 15 saddles given away to the NFR qualifiers. They recently returned from Las Vegas and the WPRA luncheon that honored the top 15 qualifiers of the WPRA. “It was quite a treat for us, we feel very fortunate to be involved with the WPRA at this level,” the Jacobson’s remarked and that they will be working with the California WPRA Circuit again this year to host the WPRA co-sanction and permit finals again in November.
Cammie Fetherston outran the competition to win the Open Average Champion buckle riding her 8 year old mare named “Timely Perfect” aka “Jackie” who is by Perfect Possibility a full brother to Dashing Perfection and by Fist Down Dash. This successful partnership of just two years yielded the duo a hefty sum of $1,387.48 for the weekend, placing in the top three of all three rounds of the 1D open average. Consistency pays off as Fetherston bettered her time each day stopping the clock with 15.549, 15.283 and 15.234. Fetherston, just twenty eight years old said, “my mare has been getting real strong recently, so I switched to running her in a hackamore.” Fetherston drove up from Roland Heights near City of Industry but considers the “Tulare Valley almost home since she was raised in Bishop. They run the girls fast here” says Fetherston. That is one of the reasons she attends races put on by C Bar T Productions at the Tulare Fairgrounds.
Winning the 2D Open Average Champion buckle was the hard working barrel setter for the weekend Tracy Ash riding her young 5 year old bay mare named “Twisted Sister” by Hickory Advantage and by Quixote. Ash hails from Modesto and roped off her young horse the first year. “Twisted Sister is a clone to Burgundy, very grouchy. I bought her when she was three years old and I just started running her in barrels this year”. Ash brought her whole family for the weekend and said, “I like Vicki and Erik’s races because they are a whole family orientated and fun barrel races,” said Ash. Ash took home $419.96 in prize money for the weekend.
Susan Van Rein won the 3D Open Average Championship and buckle riding her 9 year old brown mare she has owned for three and a half years that is registered APHA broodstock. Her horse’s name is “Smoke Me Out” aka “Odie” and is sired is Smokes Bright Chip and
her dam is TheAllAmericanGirl. “I bought her because I was impressed with her conformation, powerful hip, and her ability to use herself. Our biggest challenge right now is that she gets a little too much adrenaline going into the first barrel and doesn’t always rate like she needs to in order to turn. I worked hard on that this weekend,” said Van Rein. She also “bought her horse “Odie” because of the start she had on her. I have a great time each time I come here and they treat everyone like family,” Van Rein said.
The 4D Open Average Champion and buckle winner was Allie Smith riding her palomino “No Hole Laurie” aka “Glory”. Smith took home $268.59 in winnings over the weekend. “Glory is 9 years old out of Smokin Lion and by Rotrock Zip and was a finished roping horse before I trained her for barrels in 2006 when I got her. She has come so far in only 3 years from a horse I was told would make a horrible barrel horse and I couldn’t be more proud of her,” said Smith.
The fastest thing around this weekend was Baily Tuck running the best time all weekend of 15.059. Bailey had a successful weekend winning two go rounds riding “In the Sky Bar” aka “Spy” for a weekend total payout of $1,1278.81. Tuck’s gelding “In the Sky Bar” is out of Pie in the Sky and out of cow horses on the dam side,” says Tuck. She was “very happy with her runs.” Tuck just graduated from Cal Poly State University in June of ’09 with an Ag. Business degree and has landed a job in San Luis Obispo. She has been riding her gelding for three and a half years, “prior to that Spy was a jumping horse for seven years, and another person’s trash is my treasure,” says Tuck.
The Futurity had 12 entries and Cathy Cagliari bested the field riding her homegrown grey mare “Hope Shes Famous” aka “Hope” with a very respectful time of 15.605 and won $118.20 in the futurity which had $100 added and also picking up a check in the Saturday Open Jackpot 2D for $244.56. Cagliari has been training her filly for a year and a half and is very proud of the fact that her young filly is by her own stallion “Stir N Up The Fame” and by her grey mare “Grey Society” by “Society Road”. Cagliari said, “Hope, wants to be a natural, she is easy to train and she keeps moving.” Cagliari also noted that, “She plans on going to the futurities this year with the young filly.” Kathy Branco was second in the futurity riding a colt also by Cagliari’s stud “Stir N Up The Fame” out of “Dash to Fame” SI 113 and “First Down Dash” with a SI of 114. Cagliari also took home $361.67 check riding her other colt by her stallion named “A Move to Fame” which stopped the clock with a 15.785 on Sundays Open jackpot.
