The third annual Bustin’ Out Barrel Race over the New Year’s Weekend was four days of tough barrel races, fast times, good food, getting to see old friends and meet new friends. Many of the winter visitors who escape the colder North Country came to spend the weekend with us as well as those who were traveling through to rodeos and points east. Our entries came in from Canada, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Mon- tana, South and North Dakota, California, Nevada, Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma and if I forgot your State, please forgive me. Arizonans attended in full force as well!

Total riders for the weekend were 1,506 with a payout of $80,250.00. Average prizes totaled $10,000.00 and were presented on Sunday to the riders with the best three out of four runs in the divisional format. The $25.00 Average Sidepot was offered to the riders who wanted to try for four clean runs. Open Average awards were NBHA Saddles, NBHA Buckle, NBHA Headstall, NBHABreast Collar, Sheet, Stirrups, NBHA Chair. Youth Average awards were NBHA Buckle, NBHA Headstall, NBHA Breast Collar, Plaque, Stirrups, Spurs. Senior Average awards were NBHA Buckle, NBHA Head- stall, NBHA Breast Collar, Stirrups, NBHA Over/Under, Wallet. WPRA Average awards were NBHA Stirrups, 2 3” NBHA Conchos, 2 2” NBHA Conchos. Futurity Average awards were NBHA Buckle, Bling Headstall, NBHA Stirrups.

We were lucky enough to get to watch several current and past NFR competi- tors including Brenda Mays, Jan (Hanson) Korrtsen, Judy Mylymaki, Shali Lord, Sherry Cervi, Sheri Estrada and Sue Smith. Sherry Cervi currently holds the arena re- cord of 16.744 from the 1st Annual Bustin’ Out and got very close to that time again when she ran MP A Man with Roses in and out of the full-size pattern in 16.847 on Friday afternoon!

Have you ever lost your hat? Well, we col- lected $10.00 hat fines that almost equaled the National Debt! By the time Sunday rolled around, the hat fines were down to

a minimum and my list got a lot shorter. Thanks for paying your hat fines. . .
