This year’s State Finals was a huge success, due largely in part to the participation of members from across the state that attended. We had over 400 entries during the 3 day event, with a payout of over $23,000 in cash and over $10,000 in prizes. Many thanks goes out to our sponsors, Rockin’ Horse Ranch, and New Mexico Rodeo Council for their support.
Our Friday open race started out with a fast time of 14.295 as Rebecca Hughes on her good mare, Miss Wranglin’ Witch, set the bar for the weekend. Saturday’s race was won by Sabrina Ketchum on Uno with a time of 14.314, and on Sunday, an arena record was set as Tori Wimberly and Doctor Rarebar ran a blazing 14.175!
The average winners were awarded custom trophy saddles from Corriente Saddle Company. A big thank you to Mr. Wayne Baize who donated a handmade saddle that was raffled off; Norene Canada was the lucky ticket holder and she was very excited to take her pink seat barrel saddle home with her. Saddles were awarded to the winners in all divisions in the Open, Youth & Senior classes. Custom buckles were given to second place, with horse blankets, tack and equipment prizes to 5th place.
Average winners include Tori Wimberly of Moriarty, 1D Open, John Garcia of Springer, 2D Open, Rick Martin of Albuquerque 3D Open, and Madeline Dunnihoo of El Paso, TX, 4D Open. In the Youth, Leia Pluemer of Bosque Farms took the 1D, Dakota Gray from Carlsbad won the 2D & the 3D on two horses, and Andrew Teague from Edgewood was awarded the 4D saddle. In the Senior class, Marie Autrey of Mountainaire won the 1D, Rick Martin from Albuquerque won another saddle in the 2D, Norene Canada of Grants won the 4D, and Marilynn Morris from Edgewood won the 4D. All of the divisional winners worked hard for their titles; our hats are off to all the winners!
